A mid-level ridge of high pressure will dominate our weather pattern over the next few days bringing warm and muggy conditions. Morning lows in the mid-70s will quickly climb into the 80s by midday, with afternoon highs reaching between 92 and 95 degrees. DMA HIGHS TODAYThe combination of low-level moisture and local evapotranspiration will push heat index values into the 100 to 105 range this afternoon. The sky will be mostly sunny with a few fair weather clouds. TULSA METRO WINDSSouth winds will increase by midday, ranging from 15 to 25 mph.

Friday Night Outlook

The weather will remain warm, muggy, and breezy tonight, with temperatures not dropping out of the 90s until around 8pm to 9pm tonight.

The Weekend Outlook

Rain gear won’t be necessary this weekend. The ridge of high pressure will keep the storm track away from Oklahoma. Morning lows will stay in the mid to upper 70s with afternoon highs leveling off in the lower 90s. Weekend 3 MetroSouth winds will continue at 15 to 30 mph. A slight drop in dew points may bring a modest decrease in heat index values, but they’ll still range from the upper 90s to near 102. Heat stress remains a concern.

Next Week

Looking ahead to early next week, another boundary may approach the central Plains. The mid-level ridge near and east of the area will continue to block major storm systems from reaching Oklahoma. However, there is a slight chance (again, near or below 20%) for weak disturbances to rotate northward from the Gulf of Mexico on the backside of the ridge. TUE H5 MAPThis could bring scattered afternoon showers on Monday and Tuesday to extreme eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas. These pop-up showers will be isolated in nature.

The Summer Solstice

Summer officially begins tonight. At exactly 9:42 p.m. Central Daylight Time.

Starting tomorrow, daylight hours will begin to gradually shrink, though the change will be so subtle you likely won’t notice for several weeks.
